My maternal great-grandparents settled on a homestead in the late 1800s within 15 miles of Big Timber. I rolled into town in August of 2022 mainly to revisit locations known since childhood and dig up some family history. Little did I know that I would spend a week exploring the area. I came away with new memories, documents, photos, and videos.
Will Rogers Range Riders Rodeo

The annual rodeos are hosted by the Will Rogers Range Riders located in Amarillo Texas at their own facilities. I have documented a number of different rodeos in the arena as well. I will share a few video clips below from some of the actions going on during the annual events and others. Dalhart has a long history in the middle of farm and ranch country. I won't go into all the details for now but I will put a few links to resources for more information and videos available for you to watch.
Wilbarger County Historical Museum

The Wilbarger County Historical Museum is largely the product of a single man, Preston Carey, who has been collecting artifacts tied to the county practically all of his life. The museum is located in the old county museum The hosted tour took much longer than I expected but I loved every minute.
Caprock Canyons State Park

My first visit to the park was after the last remaining genetically pure remnants of the Southern Heard of American Bison were donated to the State of Texas and moved from the JA Ranch to the park as the official State of Texas Bison Herd. That was during the days when I was working as a still photographer and I would need to look for some of the photos to show here.
