Neches is an unincorporated community in east central Anderson County, in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 175 in 2000. It is located within the Palestine, Texas micropolitan area. I was not there to visit the community itself but to a wonderful annual event held on the Diamond B Ranch just a few miles from the Post Office here. Send me your suggestions about other places and events to explore in the area.

This is one of my favorite scenes from one of the many events at The 1836 featuring Moon Swanson who operates the Diamond B Ranch and is the host of the annual celebration of Texas Independence. Click the link above for more details and videos.

The Ben Johnson Cowboy Museum in Pawhuska, Oklahoma is dedicated to the cowboys and cowgirls from Osage County who have won titles and awards for their achievements, particularly in rodeo competitions. Not only was Ben "Son" Johnson known for his rodeo days, as was his father Ben Johnson, but Son Johnson became famous as a movie actor, stuntman, and livestock wrangler. Cody Garnett owns the museum and he takes us on a tour!

You will discover the stories of Osage County residents and events that could be in the record books for the first of their kind. Including, the creation and deployment of the FBI due to the amount of money and murder in Osage County during the 1920s.

The Concho River flows through San Angelo, Texas and the city has done a lot of work installing parks and walkways along the banks of the river but I spent most of my time exploring the section close to the downtown area. There is evidence this section has seen a lot of improvement that goes way back to the beginning of the 1900s and improvements were still ongoing at the time of my visit. Should I get an opportunity to return to the area I may explore other areas as well!

Call it what you will... the world's oldest profession seems to have provided places where men could go to pay and get certain attention and favors from women. It was not at all unusual to find such a place in San Angelo, Texas for there were known to be several located in the downtown area. But there was only one that attracted men with lots to spend for a visit to a high-class Gentleman's Club run by a woman they called Miss Hattie
