American Heartlands & Dusty Reins Stories

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is the largest motorcycle rally in the world. It is held annually in The Black Hills and in Sturgis, South Dakota for 10 days during the first week of August. It was started by local Indian dealer Pappy Hoel in 1938. Since its beginning, private area businesses throwing events such as races, concerts, and rides have made, and continue to make, the Sturgis Rally what it is today. 2022 will mark the 82nd annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, according to  the official website at https://sturgis.com/

My first two days in Sturgis were spent documenting all the action in the downtown area in real-time by live streaming to YouTube on Dusty Reins Stories. I tried using my cell phone at first but it would overheat and the cell service was not good. So I had to figure out how to get my GoPro 9 to Streamcast via WiFi and my Starlink RV service connection. You can watch the results for yourself in the embedded videos below but I recommend you click on the video to view it in full screen because the GoPro does not have a zoom ability and there is a lot going on.

Here is the result of using my phone.

I switched to using the GoPro 9 and Starlink RV service could not maintain a steady stream and broke entirely before reaching ten minutes.

I restarted the stream and this time it lasted for 11 hours

I wanted to get the camera closer to the action the next day and also avoid people and vehicles from obstructing my satellite dish causing stream interruptions. Nearly the same results as the day before and I had to start another stream after the first one broke.

You may see several events on the same day. I can only pick one to go next depending on where I was located during the prior event I attended. Fuel is expensive these days!
