I was elementary school age when I was totally impressed with the number of watermelons on hand at the beginning of August in Dalhart, Texas for the "World's Largest Barbeque Feed". The XIT Rodeo & Reunion is held annually on the first weekend in August.
There are other events during the day such as the XIT Antique Tractor Pull and the XIT Mud Drags for daytime entertainment.
Every great small-town community celebration involves a parade. I love parades because they express so much about the hosting community. Especially over a period of time.
The public feeds before the rodeos do draw thousands of people because the food is great and there is no charge!
Then the biggest draw is the rodeo that dates back to the very beginnings of the historic XIT Ranch, Nowadays, it is a PRCA-sanctioned Pro-Rodeo known to draw tough competitors in addition to some Ranch rodeo events. A few samples are sown below with the rest of the videos available on the Rodeo playlist.
