This popular annual event is held on the third weekend of September on the Saints' Roost Museum grounds as a fundraiser for the museum in honor of Charles Goodnight and presents some living history education and experience for all who attend the celebration.
There are two days of competition activity beginning with a youth cook-off opportunity and competition on Friday afternoon.
And then there is the adult competition that begins early on Saturday morning with a lunch served at noon along with musical entertainment.
There are more videos from prior attempts to document this annual community event on the Chuck Wagons playlist you see below along with more videos from other wagon-related events in the American Heartlands!
I was in Montana documenting a new region of the American Heartlands in September of 2022 so I did not re-visit this event. Let me know if there is a good annual celebration in your community you would like to have me document for heritage preservation and I will add it as a possibility on my travel schedule as seen below.
Thanks for your suggestions!
